| Job Description |
Viz, a business area within General Dynamics C4 Systems, specializes in Human-Centered Design techniques that are focused on combining user feedback with capability requirements early in the development process to deliver the right product to the end user the first time. Our engineers and visual designers create graphical user interface software solutions based on information visualization, interactive data exploration and real-time collaboration.
Leveraging expertise in information visualization and information architecture, applications developed here let people analyze and share data as well as thoughts about that data, with other people in real-time. Well-informed group decisions can be made quickly across tactical, technical, organizational and geographic boundaries without incurring travel costs or costly changes to existing information systems.
Experienced software systems engineer to participate in all phases of system development and new business pursuits related to the US Army Battle Management Systems. Efforts involve task leadership, technical strategy, operational concept development, system architecture definition, requirements analysis, trade studies, design, implementation, integration and test activities. Work with customers, users, subcontractors and project teams to define, analyze and meet customer needs.
• Leads groups and teams to accomplish project/business goals. Takes on work outside of the scope of the job description to help ensure a successful product delivery. Understands the big picture and works towards a vision, but also appreciates the importance of the details. Proactively identifies and mitigates risks and defines reasonable trade space from which the team can operate.
• Able to proactively determine requirements and scope of work, define own tasks, and execute with little oversight. Gets things done despite obstacles. Deals well with ambiguity and changing requirements in a fast-paced environment, and is also able to work within a program structure and formalized processes where they exist.
• Able to work in a heavily collaborative environment. Takes it upon him/herself to coordinate with other stakeholders and communicate status and needs to the rest of the team. Spends a significant amount of time on communication and coordination.
• Able to take software and processes and help harden them into a mature, mission-critical, “must-work” product and organization. Provides leadership and expertise in applying systematic processes to trade study, analysis, design, implementation, integration and test activities to ensure the soundness and operational suitability of architecture, design and solutions.
• Provides clear direction for less experienced engineers. Motivates and is respected by others. Ability to mentor and train new hires. Desire to improve things and help others.
• Appreciation for user-centered design. Demonstrates clarity and out-of-the-box thinking in analyzing problems that affect the team. Able to solve multiple technical problems across multiple development phases and technical domains.
