Job Description	General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies is positioned to provide solutions for global satellite and wireless communications requirements. Our VertexRSI, Gabriel and Prodelin brands are the market leaders for base station and earth station communications products and services, VSAT antennas and antenna systems, and wireless backhaul products. Technical Buyer to develop and implement short and long-term purchasing strategy for assigned commodities that are in support of Product Line strategic procurement initiatives. Utilize SATCOM Corporate agreements as required. Procure parts, materials and services required in the manufacture and shipment of satellite antennas in an economical and timely manner. ? Negotiate, establish, write and manage supply agreements including new supplier Contracts for Purchase, Contracts for Service, Letters of Intent, Memos of Understanding, etc. ? Aggressively seek and recommend cost savings possibilities based upon new sources, substitutions, improved systems, or streamlining of existing product lines. ? Place and process purchase orders and change orders in a cost effective manner to meet delivery requirements ? Oversee all activities related to procurement of a commodity from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity. ? Monitor commodity spending and conduct market analysis to identify cost savings opportunities through leveraging, alternate global sourcing, supplier consolidation, improved systems, substitutions, and other supply chain management best practices. ? Obtain and interpret significant short and long-range influences in the world market to determine present and future material availability and pricing impact for procurement of major assigned commodities. ? Manage supplier relationships and performance matrix, measuring on-time delivery, quality, pricing, and lead time reduction, ensuring supplier is engaged in performance improvement and maintenance plan. ? Process discrepancies ? Expedite deliveries when necessary ? Negotiate settlements with suppliers for problems that could result in financial losses to the company ? Develop strategies across the supply chain to reduce inventory levels, defective goods, and waste. Subscribe to “Lean”. ? Develop synergistic relationships with suppliers for company benefit. ? Participate as a key member of new product line development with Program Managers, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Planning, and Materials personnel and work on continuous improvement initiatives. ? Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Interview sales representatives for product information, order status and industry information. ? Expedite critical orders with suppliers when the expeditor is unable to improve delivery as required. ? Resolve quality problems with vendors and incorrect data on requisitions. ? Assist other departments with information regarding product availability, sourcing and prices and vendors with invoice payment. Five years of procurement experience involving engineering design and manufacturing functions in an industrial environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ? Strong background in procurement of machined and fabricated parts in an electro/mechanical, manufacturing or industrial environment ? Strong mechanical aptitude ? Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and to interact with internal departments and vendors regarding technical specifications ? Experience in working with Engineering, Program Management, and other departments in a team atmosphere for product development ? Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and team skills with a background in negotiating contracts, strategic purchasing agreements, and multi-year subcontracts. ? Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of management, personnel and vendors. ? Procurement contract writing expertise and familiarity with the legal aspects of the purchasing function ? Working knowledge of MRP and ERP principles ? Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word, Internet sourcing, and order processing software. ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills ? Self-motivated, multi-tasking, and solution-oriented. ? 20% travel for supplier visits ? Preferred: ? Technical degree or equivalent experience ? CPM Certification ?
