Viz, a business area within General Dynamics C4 Systems, specializes in Human-Centered Design techniques that are focused on combining user feedback with capability requirements early in the development process to deliver the right product to the end user the first time. Our engineers and visual designers create graphical user interface software solutions based on information visualization, interactive data exploration and real-time collaboration.
Leveraging expertise in information visualization and information architecture, applications developed here let people analyze and share data as well as thoughts about that data, with other people in real-time. Well-informed group decisions can be made quickly across tactical, technical, organizational and geographic boundaries without incurring travel costs or costly changes to existing information systems.
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with product management experience for our distributed collaboration technology. This is a “disruptive technology” is used by a variety of commercial and military projects to develop highly collaborative information visualization applications. The work is very much on the cutting edge, and is in high demand by the U.S. Army.
An ideal candidate would be able to understand and keep up with the technology as it evolves, apply that understanding to critically engage with new opportunities in the context of the market, manage requirements, work with the team to maintain long term roadmap, and communicate about the product to customers and technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities / Expectations:
Efforts involve product leadership, technical strategy, operational concept development, requirements analysis, and trade studies. Work with customers, users, subcontractors and project teams to define, analyze and meet customer needs.
•Leads groups and teams to accomplish project/business goals. Takes on work outside of the scope of the job description to help ensure a successful product delivery. Understands the big picture and works towards a vision, but also appreciates the importance of the details. Proactively identifies and mitigates risks and defines reasonable trade space from which the team can operate.
•Able to proactively determine requirements and scope of work, define own tasks, and execute with little oversight. Gets things done despite obstacles. Deals well with ambiguity and changing requirements in a fast-paced environment and is also able to work within a program structure and formalized processes where they exist.
•Able to work in a heavily collaborative environment. Takes it upon him/herself to coordinate with other stakeholders and communicate status and needs to the rest of the team. Spends a significant amount of time on communication and coordination.
•Appreciation for user-centered design. Demonstrates clarity and out-of-the-box thinking in analyzing problems that affect the team.
BS Degree (Computer Science or a related technical field preferred) plus a minimum of 8 years of directly applicable experience is required. Advanced degree strongly desired.
Required Experience:
Solid background in product management and an understanding of the entire software project life cycle. Must have experience managing requirements, scope, stakeholder requests and product roadmaps of large software based systems. Experience working in large teams, interacting with customers and internal stakeholders on a geographically distributed team is required. Knowledge and experience with standard system engineering methodologies and experience with systems engineering products (SEMP, CONOPS, SRS, SDD, IDD) is preferred. Experience with distributed computing systems is preferred. Must be able to work with little to no supervision. Must also possess excellent communication skills and be capable of presenting technical concepts in easy to understand terms to large audiences.
