General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies in Richardson, TX has an entry-level Electrical Engineering position available. This engineering position is to support the GDST “Satcom-on-the-Move” (SOTM) antenna and Optical Telescope product teams. SOTM systems are stabilized, tracking satellite-communication antennas that provide high-bandwidth network communications to a variety of military and commercial ground vehicle, shipboard, and airborne environments. The candidate electrical engineer will support then eventually be responsible for new-product design and existing-product support. Tasks include electrical system configuration, component selection and specification, design, schematic capture, layout, and test of analog and digital electronics, wiring, harnessing, and connectorization of servo and RF systems, and all aspects of integration, test, troubleshooting, and production support. Candidate will work closely with electrical, servo, software, mechanical, production, and test personnel. Position requires a minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. A candidate with Electrical Engineering Coop and/or internship experience of at least one year is a definite plus. The individrual will provide support the following tasks under supervision: • Systems Engineering • Customer Design Review • Systems testing and installation • Systems analysis using Matlab/Simulink is highly desirable • Analog and Digital Circuit design • Servo Control Loop Analysis • Installations and field support activities • Other duties as assigned. The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: • Familiarity with analog and digital circuit designs: o PCAD, AutoCAD, Mentor and Cadence o PCBs, flex circuits o Digital, Analog and Mixed using D/A & A/D converters, data acquisition, embedded uC’s, modular power supplies, serial bus (RS232, RS422, Ethernet, etc.), op-amps, signal conditioning o Various high speed and low cost memory circuit designs including SDR and DDR SDRAM, SRAM – synchronous and asynchronous, and FIFO – single and dual port. o FPGA programming languages experience such as VHDL, Verilog, AHDL, ABEL, CUPL, and /or VisualHDL o FPGA simulation experience o PCI-X 133 MHz, PCI-32 bit 33/66 MHz, VME, Compact PCI, PMC • Experience in reading and generating wiring diagrams and harnesses a plus • Experience using Labview and Matlab required • Knowledgeable in Modern Controls theory • Knowledgeable of RF designs through 2GHz or direct SATCOM experience is a plus • Experienced with MS Word, Excel, VBA (macros); knowledge of additional MS Office products helpful. • Excellent communication skills due to close contact with the customer, Management, Engineering team, and manufacturing. • Possibility of some domestic and international travel will be required to support field installations. The successful candidate should have one of the following: Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required. Engineering Coop or Internship of at least one year is preferred.
