Job Description General Dynamics C4 Systems' Battle Management Systems Division designs, develops, and integrates highly sophisticated command, control, and communications systems for the U.S. military, federal agencies, civil governments and related international customers. These state-of-the-art, integrated systems combine advanced visualization software and multi-sensor inputs to provide near real-time situational awareness to tactical decision makers. Our engineers help transform large amounts of complex data into useful information that is clearly and intuitively presented to end users, enabling them to make better-informed decisions. We design and develop systems and software for a wide range of global missions including: battle command; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; airspace management; crisis and emergency management; peace keeping and contingency operations; drug intervention, and public safety.


Software Architect needed to support the software development efforts for the Integrated Switching Systems (ISS) business unit in Columbia, MD, which includes the full lifecycle of software development. The Software Architect plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products. Researches, designs, and develops computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products. Continues to expand knowledge in domain of expertise. Expertise is sought out regularly. Displays a depth of knowledge across multiple technical areas. Mentors less experienced engineers. Participates in development of technical strategies and teaming strategies on multiple projects. Leads medium sized technical proposals and contributes to large proposals. Strong advocate of continuous process improvement. Leads large sized continuous process improvement efforts.


BS Degree in Computer Science + 10 years of demonstrated results, or equivalent experience, is preferred. Advanced degree recommended. Experience with IP Networking, Voice over IP (H.323, SIP), Voice Switching Systems, H.100, ISA, PCI and advanced buss and switch fabric architectures is needed. All candidates must have experience with software architecture development, software application design, implementation, and test of software using state-of-the-art technologies, methodologies, and development environments. Has demonstrated strengths and experience in the following areas: • Minimum of 5 years experience in C++ development in a Microsoft Windows development environment. Minimum of 3 years development experience in C# and .NET. Thorough understanding of Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). Thorough understanding of Object Oriented design/programming Understanding of Service Oriented/Based Architecture (SOA). Experience developing VOIP applications a plus. Working knowledge of military command and control operational concepts required. Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to work in a fast paced / dynamic team environment and possess time management skills to meet schedules. Ability to conduct Requirements Analysis and develop System level derived requirements and development of system requirements and design products such as Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), Interface Requirements Specifications (IRS), System Design Document (SDD), Interface Control Document (ICD), and Interface Design Document (IDD) • Conduct System functional analysis including trade studies and white paper analysis as needed • Support to the development team and integration team for software, test and integration challenges. • Experienced using Telelogic's DOORs, the Rational tools Requisite Pro, Rhapsody, Subversion, ClearCase and ClearQuest a plus. Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to work in a fast paced / dynamic team environment and possess time management skills to meet schedules.

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.

Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance, and U.S. Citizenship is required.
