Job Description General Dynamics C4 Systems is a leading provider of secure communications and information solutions, products, services, and technologies. The Communications Division of General Dynamics C4 Systems seeks a technical individual with a solid background in both radio communications and IP networking. This person will be a member of the Radio Products Technical Support team and will provide field support to install, configure, troubleshoot, and demonstrate equipment used in military environments. In addition, this person will provide support to internal development and test organizations to help configure and test equipment in laboratory settings. As the “Subject Matter Expert”, candidate may occasionally be required to train customers in both formal classroom and informal field settings on equipment installation, operation, and maintenance as well as create and update technical documentation and manuals.

This assignment includes travel to Government and contractor facilities approximately one to two weeks per month. Trips usually last one week in duration and are generally to CONUS locations. Infrequently trips may last more than one week and travel may be to OCONUS locations.

Initially, candidate will provide demonstration, field, and test support for the JTRS HMS* radio program, specifically on the Rifleman Radio system. The Rifleman Radio system forms both voice and wireless networking communication nets which pass voice, data, and video traffic. After training on the system, candidate will be required to travel one to two weeks per month to various CONUS locations to provide field integration and test support. Task includes setting up radio hardware and radio networks for test, troubleshooting communications errors among radios within the network, and answering technical questions to customer personnel. Job will require making cabling and power connections to equipment, configuring equipment operating parameters, establishing communications between radios to create wireless networks, troubleshooting communications issues, and setting up networking interfaces from host PC’s to the radios.

The candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a Field Service or Technical Support role. Military service with a background in supporting communications equipment in a field environment qualifies. Candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of technical experience in both radio communications and IP networking. A strong background in installing and operating tactical military SATCOM and LOS radios is required, as well as experience in configuring IP networking devices. Candidates who do not possess a strong background in both radio and IP communications networks will not be considered.

Specific radio hardware knowledge includes RF transmit power requirements, use of attenuation, antenna placement and siting, use of power and pre amplifiers, cabling and power supplies. Specific RF communications knowledge includes modulation schemes (AM, FM, phase), frequency bands/spectrums, TDMA and CSMA techniques, gains and losses through a system in dB and watts, and understanding packet transfers, throughput rate, and latencies. Must also be able to configure test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and meters in laboratory setups to monitor and capture desired signals.

Specific IP networking knowledge includes IP addressing schemes, routing protocols, and UDP and TCP protocols. Candidate should be proficient in troubleshooting with Link Light, Ping, and Network Sniffers. Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems a plus as well as proficiency in one or more tools/applications such as FTP, Telnet, Hyperterm, and shell commands.

Must be able to communicate and interact with all levels of military hierarchy and at all program levels while demonstrating tact and diplomacy. Must have excellent communications and presentation skills and must be able to discuss technical issues on several different levels (technical, management, customer, etc). Must be able to organize information in logical sequence and be able to present information in a clear, easy to understand way for military and other government customers. Must have excellent writing abilities for creating and updating manuals, technical bulletins and other user technical documentation. Understanding military rank and insignias a plus.

Applicant must have a US SECRET Security Clearance (or above) and be a US Citizen. Must be able to travel ~25% of the time.

EDUCATION: Associate of Science degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent. Cisco certifications such as CCNA will be considered, but only if paired with education and experience in Electronics Technology and/or Radio Communications Theory. Equivalent military education may be considered if at a maintenance level in an electronics or communications field.

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.

Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance, and U.S. Citizenship is required.
