Job Description	General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies is positioned to provide solutions for global satellite and wireless communications requirements. This position is with General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Government Systems, Inc., but which operationally reports into General Dynamics C4 Systems, Inc. Benefit packages and policies of General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, Inc. may vary from those available at General Dynamics C4 Systems, Inc. This position is located in San Jose, CA. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: • Design and manage projects of new antennas, radio telescopes, and other sophisticated instrumentation • Managing individual design tasks or more advanced projects in the field of structural and mechanical engineering • Provide hands-on engineering expertise in structural/mechanical design, pointing error analysis, deformation analysis, and dynamic analysis • Provide project engineering leadership as required by individual projects and groups of technical people • Manage multiple projects • Ability to select and work with subcontractors • Contribute to writing proposals Ideal candidate is willing to become familiar with and perform analysis and design of large, moveable, steerable structures such as communication antennas, radio telescopes and optical telescopes. These systems involve motors, speed reducers, bearings, gears, pinions, encoders and limit switches. Required experience/knowledge: • Minimum two to four years, structural design using 3D CAD systems such as: SolidWorks and AutoCAD • Must have a BS Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Structural Design Emphasis; MS is advantageous • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident • Structural-Mechanical design and codes • Structural Steel Fabrication methods and standards • Finite Element Analysis experience (NASTRAN, FEMAP, CFD software, etc.) • Structural optimization methods. Minimal travel may be required. EOE/AA M/F/D/V Must be able to travel 20% of the time. Applicant must be a US Citizen.
