The Research Scientist will be an important thought leader within this organization, located at the GDC4S facility in Arlington, Va providing technical leadership in expanding GDC4S’s current Research programs, expanding GDC4S’s base of IP that can be leveraged across multiple projects, building new capabilities through internal Research & Development (IR&D) programs, and developing and pursuing new business opportunities. Recent experience working with government research customers – particularly DARPA, DoD labs, Intelligence Community, and DHS S&T activities – is highly desirable. The Research Scientist will report to the BMS CTO and will create R&D roadmaps for the short, medium, and long term. This position will will help grow the demand for Battle Management System solutions within the US Government, either directly from the sponsoring US Government agency or through partnership with another company or laboratory. This may later expand to non-US Government sponsors.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, a related technical field or the equivalent experience is required. Advanced degree is preferred. In addition, a minimum of 15 years of related experience is required. 3 years of leadership experience is preferred.
Qualified candidates will have an advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, and/or another related or equivalent technical or scientific field. Has least 10+ years post graduate experience in research / advanced development experience, a successful record of proposal authoring, and project leadership/management experience. The candidate will have strong theoretical and practical background in relevant topic areas that may include: command and control, cyber security, ISR, algorithmic and visual analytics, and the human-information interface. Has 5+ years technical experience in software development with ability to quickly prototype in Java and possesses strong Computer Science fundamentals (data structures, algorithm design and analysis, etc). Preferred candidates have as at least 3+ years experience that include progressive leadership roles managing software project budgets and schedules. Experience with government development, contracting, and procurement process is a plus.
Successful candidates will have a strong technical background, a keen business sense, and will be motivated by the impacts generated when the research products reaches users in the field, not just the research process. Excellent teamwork, oral, and written communication skills are a must, as is the desire to develop and execute research programs.
Candidates will also have current familiarity with agencies and individuals who are logical sources of R&D funding and can identify and lead the pursuit of appropriate partnering opportunities and potential sponsor targets. Will have experience authoring proposals with research funding agencies such as DARPA, DoD service labs, and other funding agencies. Possesses ability to generate and develop and market new research ideas as demonstrated by a strong technical publication record in respected journals, books, and conference proceedings including keynote presentations.
Must be able to travel 20% of the time.

This position requires an active US Government Secret Clearance.
DoD Secret Clearance required, current/prior Top Secret clearance desired.
