Position Purpose: Guides successful completion of major engineering programs, or conceives research in areas of considerable scope and complexity supporting the development and production of Gulfstream products and services Principal Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: 1) Selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues 2) Is consulted extensively by associates and others as a recognized authority within the field 3) Anticipates and resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways, developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities 4) Approach to problem solving balances technical product, cost and schedule 5) Works without appreciable direction; work is reviewed from a long-range perspective for desired results 6) Exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, and makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative Additional Functions: 1) Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields in order to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product 2) Performs other duties as assigned Other Requirements: 1) Advanced degree in engineering, or related curriculum preferred 2) The level of technical skill and abilities appropriate for this grade will be established by each discipline Unique Skills Required: - Coordinate, Review, Design, and integrates components and systems within the primary Mechanical Systems Engineering disciplines: Landing Gear Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Aircraft Doors (including all passenger doors, baggage doors, access panels, and Landing Gear doors), Flight Control Systems, and Flight Deck & Furnishings, to optimize performance, and improve reliability and safety. - Understands and has demonstrated experience across the broad range of Mechanical Systems Engineering disciplines: Landing Gear Systems, Nose-Wheel Steering, Nose Wheel Steering Control, Landing Gear System Indication and Control, Actuation, Wheels, Brakes, Tires, Hydraulic Systems, Aircraft Doors (including all passenger doors, baggage doors, access panels, and Landing Gear doors), Flight Control Systems, and Flight Deck & Furnishings.- Applies company standards, procedures and processes against the broad range of Mechanical Systems Engineering Systems detailed above.- Understands aircraft integration and design at the enterprise level.- Demonstrates experience/knowledge of key elements of airworthiness, regulatory compliance, OEM, and industry-recognized compliance requirements. - Follows quality standards and procedures of ISO 9001:2000/AS 9100 (Rev. B) to ensure manufacturing standards are met. - Adheres to Lean and/or Six Sigma principles to ensure quality initiatives and standard testing procedures are met. - Performs operations in CATIA v. 4 with minimal guidance or support. Includes 3-D modeling, 3-D creative modeling, projections, layout drawings, installations, dimensions and tolerances. - Performs operations and procedures in MS Office Suite with minimal guidance or support. Includes EXCEL and related statistical and analytical tools, MS Project, Access, and PowerPoint. - Performs Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) to assess risk and severity of failure on system. Includes assessing risk in design, probability testing and factor weighting. - Applies technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve a wide range of difficult engineering problems. - Supervisory experience considered an asset.- With the Functional Manager, must be able to mentor/coach and provide guidance and engineering/technical direction to less experienced/lower grade level Engineers.- Must be comfortable and flexible in a continually changing "Sustaining" environment with changing workload/prioritization.- Prior experience leading, coordinating, and managing Suppliers and specifically Supplier Engineering deliverables required.- Prior experience working with, coordinating, and managing different cultures, relationship-building, and team-building is preferred, as this position will interface extensively via telecon, email, webex, etc. with IAI - Israel Aerospace Industries, GALP, Gulfstream's interface to IAI and the CAI (Israel's FAA equivalent) in Tel-Aviv, and other culturally sensitive groups.- Prior experience working with, coordinating, and team-building across inter-departmental groups, such as Systems Engineering: Electrical Systems, Electrical/Wiring, Powerplant Systems, ECS (Environmental Control Systems), Structures, Stress, Program Office, Project Engineering, Spares/Warranty, Technical Operations (Tech Ops), Service Engineering, Quality, etc. preferred.- High degree of self-starter, workload/prioritization and control, monitoring and executing engineering projects, plans, schedules, tasks, deliverables, with minimal supervision and under changing priorities is required. Experience/Education Required: - Bachelors degree in engineering, a related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. - See Other Requirements in Job Description.10 yrs in the specific technical discipline or 15 yrs broad engineering experience in several technical disciplines with Bachelors, or 8 yrs in the specific technical discipline with Masters, or 6 yrs in the specific technical discipline with PhD. |
