Job Description
Position Purpose:
The Commodity Specialist leads and develops one or more corporate teams of professionals in driving competitive advantage and cost savings. Use expert knowledge of the commodity to leverage agreements, manage key supplier relationships, effectively develop and execute commodity strategies and leads the successful implementation, execution and compliance to approved corporate procurement and commodity/spend strategies, contracts, processes and policies. Lead a team to focus on performing these functions for all identified leverage opportunities. Focal point for all commercial activity and relationships with the leadership of the companys suppliers for the specified commodity. Work closely with engineering, operations, quality and corporate buying representatives to continually improve performance and material cost.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1) Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for designated spend categories

2) Lead pricing and term negotiations, preparation and analysis of bid proposals/packages and supplier selection

3) Provide subject matter expertise regarding commercial and technology market trends so as to advise internal users of the categories and generate cost savings and value to the bottom line

4) Interface with strategic suppliers to solve problems involving pricing, supplier performance, or other relative issues

5) Maintain knowledge of market conditions and trends of commodity

6) Lead the conducting of market surveys by Buyers for best sources of supply

7) Manage contracting, tactical and transactional activity for assigned categories across multiple sites in accordance with approved processes and policies

8) Quantify and report implementation gap closure and value of recommended sourcing strategies

9) Contribute to detailed planning and execution of improvement actions with internal teams

10) Utilize benchmarking expertise to develop Best Practices

11) Utilize Best Practices for the commodity as well as Purchasing/Procurement Strategies

Additional Functions:
1) Performs other duties as assigned

Other Requirements:
1) Strong people development skills

2) Experience in automotive, aerospace or other industry managing specific commodities

3) Broad supplier quality and development knowledge

4) Ability to execute against established commercial goals

5) Knowledge and ability to interact with suppliers and engineering teams

6) Computer knowledge and application skills required

7) Must understand Technical Requirements Documents and Statements of Work

8) A credit history check from a national credit bureau will be conducted for all candidates for this position including new hires and current employees seeking promotion or transfer.

Unique Skills Required:
Commodity Expertise, contract drafting, strength in leading teams

Experience/Education Required:
- Bachelors degree in business, supplier management or related curriculum.Eight years or more related professional experience.
