Sr Principal Engineer, Systems in Herndon, Virginia
We are looking for systems engineer to work with anArchitect team and assume leadership roles in several aspects of Sponsor's technical projects especially in systems reliability usage, and mission responsiveness metrics, improvement including operational stability, cost schedules, documentation preparation, approval boards and direct customer interaction

Support Sponsor-wide integration planning and interface coordination; tracking delivery schedules and control gates;

Support and help coordinate and prioritize multiple on-going activities, including:

o Multiple simultaneous and interdependent software engineering projects.

o Consolidation of department technical processes and procedures.

o Establishment of operations-relevant systems stability and assurance processes and policies to identify, define, document, and track systems requirements and ensure ongoing O&M for managed IT systems.

1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
2. Masters Degree preferred.

10-15 years of related systems engineering experience.
Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience developing and supporting applications and COTS/COTS intelligence analysis systems in multiple disciplines, including Java, C/C++, SQL, PHP, Oracle PL/SQL, Microsoft SQL, Perl, Adobe Flex, etc. especially in rapid-pace “Big Data� mission-focused environments.

Demonstrated experience of excellent communications skills (oral, written, and presentation) with demonstrated ability to develop and lead a team of junior and mid-level developers in very-large-scale high-performance big-data, cloud/grid computer systems in a high-performance, high-stress mixed contractor/vendor/staff environment leveraging Sponsor project financial status tracking and reporting systems and Wiki technology

Demonstrated experience translating user objectives into technical design and implemented code in extremely short time frames within the Sponsor INFOSEC context; including strong technical skills in:

Object Oriented Design Methodology, Database modeling, design, implementation, administration, hosting and O&M with multiple DB platforms (such as Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Objectivity, etc.),

Web/Internet architecture modeling, design, implementation, hosting and O&M (J2EE, HTML, and XML).

Demonstrated experience in Security, INFOSEC, Encryption and Key Management Systems

o Implementation of Commercial Encryption and Key Management products, especially in Sponsor Mission-Systems contexts

o Systems auditing including Linux and Windows built-in capabilities, proprietary solutions, and the associated standard practices.

o Network security including software and hardware firewall configuration and debugging, one way transfer mechanisms, and network intrusion detection systems.

o System lockdown practices for both Windows and Linux.

o Encryption tools for file, drive, and whole-host encryption.

Demonstrated experience in Identity Management and propagation systems:

o Encryption key management and provisioning systems.

o User account management tools and practices including Samba, Active Directory, NIS+, and Centrify.

o Storage solutions such as database and LDAP.

o Encryption implementations such as PKI, shared secret, and salted hashes

System Administration

o Virtual machine architecture and operation

o Attached and network storage solutions and protocols including NFS, CIFS, SNFS, Neap, and SANs.

o Networking tools and protocols including the OSI stack, network hardware, DNS, and networking tools like nmap, ss, and pcap.

o IP address allocation and routing mechanisms such as sub-netting, network address translation (NAT), port address translation (PAT), and virtual LANs (VLANs).

o System monitoring tools like Nagios, Ganglia, Splunk, syslog, and Syslong-ng.

o Cluster management tools like Puppet, Rocks, or Kickstart.





Familiarity with project tracking tools such as MS Project:

Sponsor Knowledge

o Experience working with mission oriented Sponsor elements.

o Sponsor INFOSEC process, reviews, and boards.

o Documentation and Presentation

o System documentation in both written and graphical forms.

o Presentation to senior government management.

o Reduction of complex ideas to simple, digestible forms.
