Product Management at General Dynamics IT - Health IT (formerly ViPS) is staffed by two-person teams, a Business Owner, responsible for the "outward" (market and company) facing aspects and the Product Owner, responsible for the "inward" (development and technology) facing aspects of product management. While the PM team is jointly and ultimately responsible for the success of their product(s), the Product Owner specifically guides the engineering, design and QA processes for the product including ensuring that the release criteria are met within the agreed upon timeframes. PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY 1. Working with the Business Owner, write Product Requirement Documents (PRD) that define the features and capabilities required to address market opportunity. 2. Develop functional specifications, defining the functions necessary to meet the established requirements. 3. Responsible for review and approval of the technical design ensuring the defined functionality and requirements (release criteria) are being met or exceeded. 4. Develop test scenarios to verify the approved design and functionality performs as specified prior to release. CUSTOMER INTERACTION 1. Refine, verify and validate product functions into features of the product working with customers or a sub-group to ensure they provide what the customer needs. 2. Augment Customer Support staff on in depth inquiries, issues, and enhancement suggestions. 3. Production of customer documentation, including release notes, intranet postings, newsflash bulletins, and newsletter content. 4. Other interactions as requested by Customer Service, ASP, Account Management, Business Owner or other entities. LIFE CYCLE LEADERSHIP 1. Mange the product development backlog. 2. Actively lead the product through the development life cycle; control scope creep. 3. Participate in project planning throughout the product life cycle 4. Engage actively and continuously with extended team members as needed to enhance communication 5. Accountable for the functional success of the project 6. Resolves functional and design issues 7. Technical interface for cross-organizational communications related to product or industry at all levels (peers, subordinates, management, executives) 8. Maintain customer empathy and understanding of their business needs. 1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Health Information Technology-related field required; MBA or Masters in other Health Information Technology-related area preferred. 2. Minimum 2 years experience in Product Management. Additionally minimum 5 years experience in System Development, Business Analysis, Systems Analysis and/or Project Engineering (IT solutions). Healthcare industry preferred. 3. Background in technical support, system administration or product development type roles with exposure to marketing/sales. 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Samples of technical written communications and an oral presentation will be required of select candidates. 2. Excellent time-management, organization, prioritization and planning skills. 3. Impeccable work ethic, completely dependable, and proactive. Problem Solver. 4. Inherent passion, inspiring the entire development team. Excellent soft skills - approachability, compassion, empathy. 5. Professional representative of GDIT - illustrating polish, integrity, and creating trust. 6. Accountable for effective and accurate design and product quality. 7. Creation of user friendly, product documentation and informative customer communications. 8. Business travel of approximately 20 percent is expected for this position. |
