This position is responsible for the program support to the MTF Patient Safety (PS) Manager. This responsibility includes assisting with the administration, management, and daily operation of the program including adherence to established policies and procedures.
Assists in the administration and management of day-to-day PS program operations encompassing all aspects of inpatient and ambulatory care and support functions. Helps the PS manager in ensuring close collaboration with the performance improvement (PI), quality management, and risk management offices. Assists the PS manager with the coordination of root cause analyses (RCAs), failure mode and effect analyses (FMEAs), and other PS initiatives. In order to accomplish these functions, the PS Program Assistant shall have access to all necessary and relevant MTF and medical staff data, including but not limited to committee minutes, medical records and medical staff files. Member of the organization in preparation for Joint Commission (TJC) and / or Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) survey.
Specific Tasks:
1. Assists the PS manager plan, develop, implement and coordinate Patient Safety functions in accordance with AF and DoD directives.
2. Supports the PS manager in developing, coordinating, and executing a proactive risk assessment plan to identify, reduce, and prevent, wherever possible, risks to safe care. PS activities under this plan include preventable medical event and near miss reporting, analysis of near miss and lesser harm events, root cause analysis, FMEAs, communication and team training, and reporting to the DoD PS Center.
3. Executes special assignments which frequently require searching for and obtaining data and information for use by the Patient Safety Manager in reaching conclusions and making decisions.
4. Assist PS manager in tracking deployment and sustainment of risk reduction strategies and improvement recommendations resulting from PS activities.
5. As designated by the PS manager, collects, collates, analyzes, and displays data from event reviews, RCAs, FMEAs, and other sources. Disseminates to appropriate committees and individuals for patient safety improvement purposes.
6. As designated by the PS manager, assists in developing, coordinating, and presenting ongoing PS education in the form of new employee orientation, one-on-one consultations, and in-service training. Also as designated, provides in-service and just-in-time training as indicated and requested.
7. Assumes related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the PS manager and/or MTF Commander.


Minimum Associate Degree in a healthcare related profession.
If in a licensed healthcare profession, licensure must be current, valid, active, and unrestricted.


Five (5) years experience in the healthcare setting with two (2) years experience at the administrative level highly desired.
Military healthcare experience a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word required, and Microsoft Access, PowerPoint and Excel desired.
Must possess ability to work, organize time, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective writing and presentation skills desired.
