Linux & Unix System Administrator- TS/SCI with Polygraph in Herndon, Virginia
The customer requires a Systems Administrator to perform Linux, Windows, database, and network administration for a local area network (LAN) and a cloud-based environment. Both the LAN and the cloud environments support projects initiated and maintained by Data Scientists. Data Scientists combine applied mathematics, programming skills, analytical techniques, and data to provide unique insights for decision makers. The customer environment is fast-paced and the Systems Administrator will be expected to support multiple projects and collection efforts that, in many cases, will result in non-standard systems and network configurations. Specific duties, priorities, and workload will be established by the customer, however, the Systems Administrator is expected to take initiative and provide innovative solutions to technical problems to the customer on a regular basis. The Systems Administrator will work closely with the Critical Infrastructure Mission Manager (CIMM) to manage and control accountable property, to include an annual inventory of equipment. The Systems Administrator will maintain, enhance, and identify risks to the technology infrastructure so the customer objective can continue without IT interruptions. The Systems Administrator will provide database administration for customer databases and internal information storage. The Systems Administrator will maintain all software and hardware used for websites, file sharing, and internal tools, and will also build and maintain desktop computers. The Systems Administrator will administer and maintain version control repositories, backup systems, monitoring systems, firewalls, and network configurations for both the LAN and cloud-based environments. Additionally, the Systems Administrator will collaborate with InfoSec to ensure proper security controls are in place for system network devices, servers, workstations, databases, and file systems. The customer will require bi-weekly activity reports from the Systems Administrator.

1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
2. Masters Degree preferred.

10-15 years of related systems engineering experience.
• Bachelor of Science in IS, IT, or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
 • Experience administering and maintaining Unix/Linux (Centos/Debian/RHEL) environments
 • Administration experience for Windows Server 2003/2008 versions
 • Demonstrated knowledge of virtual platforms and architectures including VMWare
 • Administration and use of Microsoft SQL server or MySql
 • Self-motivation and an ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
 • Extensive experience in McAfee security software administration
 • Experienced with installation of system wide distributed software and hardware, including upgrades
 • Knowledge of network management technologies (DNS, IPTables, routing topologies

 • Experienced interfacing with HTTP XML APIs
 • Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services especially EC2, CloudWatch, Elastic Beanstalk, SimpleDB and Route53.
 • Demonstrated experience in routing & switching utilizing various protocols & methods
 • Understanding of common backup and restore procedures
 • Experience in Apache configuration and performance tuning
 • Experience with VMWare ESX/ESXi
 • Experience in developing standard virtual machine images
 • Experience in establishment and maintenance of Active Directory
 • Experience in managing Watchguard firewalls
 • Familiar with data transfer protocols and security
 • Experience with data storage technologies (SAN, NFS, iSCSI)
 • Knowledge of Veeam
 • Knowledge of Cacti / Zenoss / Nagios
 • Knowledge of SVN / CVS / git
 • Ability to document systems and processes
 • Knowledge of OSX
 • Knowledge of Django, MongoDB, pymong, multiprocessing/threading, WSGI, and no-SQL databases
 • Knowledge of Linux (Shell scripting, Apache, Lighttpd, MySQL, MongoDB configuration/maintenance and Cron job scheduling)
 • Knowledge of SaaS/high-volume, large data environments
 • Knowledge of .NET Framework 3.0/3.5/4.0
 • Knowledge of ASP.Net MVC 2.0/3.0 or ASP.Net Web forms
 • Significant experience in both active and passive monitoring of networks and systems
 • In-depth knowledge of role-based and other forms of system/network access control
 • Familiarity with security policy (technical, personnel, facilities), legal requirements
 • Proven ability to assess risks associated with systems/networks and their environments
 • Proven ability to recommend technical, procedural, and/or policy security solutions to resolve system/network deficits
 • Ability to assess current system structure and environment for weaknesses and identify mitigation factors.
 • Ability to analyze active and passive monitoring results, correlating across components, to identify any intrusions and/or their impacts.
 • Ability to convey significance of system/network problems to seniors without losing the sense of the impacts
