The customer requires a Programmer to support projects initiated and maintained by Data Scientists. Data scientists combine applied mathematics, programming skills, analytical techniques, and data to provide unique insights for decision makers. Each individual typically only has depth in one of these areas, so effective data science efforts require teaming of complementary skill sets. The customer environment is fast-paced and the Programmer will be expected to support multiple projects and collection efforts. Specific duties, priorities, and workload will be established by the customer, however, the Programmer is expected to take initiative and provide innovative solutions to technical problems to the customer on a regular basis. The Programmer should be knowledgeable of technologies/environments including Ruby on Rails (RoR), Python, PERL, J2EE, .net, Linux, Java, JavaScript, MySQL, iOS, relational and non-relational databases including Oracle, Hadoop, and HBase. The Programmer will use and develop software and tools to effectively exploit "big data" and emerging media types within a cloud-based environment. The primary focus of projects will be on "big data" collection, storage, management, and analysis—the Programmer will participate as a team member with other customers and will support configuration management and other programmatic activities (updates to procedures, logging of activities, and use of Subversion configuration control software) as required. The Programmer will perform some database and web activities, specifically as they relate to "big data" issues. The customer will require bi-weekly activity reports from the Programmer.
