Job Description General Dynamics Information Technology is a top-tier IT integrator that provides information technology, systems engineering and professional services to customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, federal civil and commercial sectors. Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems. Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering. Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis. Plans upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements. Develops documentation on new or existing systems. Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems. Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Provides guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibility. May serve as a technical team or task lead. Serves as liaison with clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. Maintains state-of-the-art technical expertise and takes a proactive approach to minimize risk in managing the customer legacy networks and production servers to ensure on-going technical and engineering services are maintained; integration of new requirements and technologies are achieved; and overarching system architectural issues are managed and coordinated as required. Provides functional guidance and direction in LAN administration, hardware and software technical support analysis, operating systems configuration, communications and network systems analysis, configuration management, general end user support and training, systems analysis, data security analysis, software quality analysis, office automation, and network operations. Has expertise in Microsoft Windows, UNIX/LINUX environment and networking. Provides comprehensive end user support in network design, hardware/software selection, integration, inter/intra network data communications, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. Designs, analyzes, plans, and modifies network components supporting customer communication implementation activities. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods and prepares the analysis of the short-term or long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling; conducts network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies.
Demonstrates expertise in alternative routing scenarios and changes in required sequence of network activities. Supports level 1 and 2 staff and provide 2 & 3rd-level support for local and remote staff computing and telecom issues, which require more in-depth technical knowledge, experience, and research. Responsible for providing highly specialized IT services and necessary support documentation. Provides expert technical and analytical services to accomplish comprehensive support supporting contractual deliverables. Requires primarily on-site support for tasks operationally supported by the customer legacy network and production servers and for the effective collaboration and daily interactions among Project Teams that is comprised of Government and Contractor personnel, both internal and external to the USMC organization. The degree of involvement varies ranging from supplementing existing Government resources to providing total core technical support. Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in order to support customer legacy servers and associated applications while supporting activities for implementation of legacy network configurations for hardware and software hosted on SIPR and NIPR networks. Includes the identification, documentation, management, and configuration of USMC VMware environment. Responsible for assisting in legacy network and server engineering, design, configuration management, and day-to-day operational support to manage customer production servers that support customer maintained applications, projects, and activities that enable the centralized management of customer programs, data repositories, and initiatives that support Enterprise. Create, maintain, and update a network and computing systems Architecture, Plan, Build and Operations Guide (APBOG). Review the current network and server design/architecture. As necessary, update the appropriate APBOG. Provide technical expertise and configuration for Cisco 6500, 3750, 4948, 4948-10G switch devices, F5 Load-balancers, and configuration of Tactical LAN Encryption (TACLANE) devices. Establish and execute a comprehensive system engineering and administration Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that ensures availability of customer services, overall connectivity and bandwidth across the MARCORSYSCOM customer base. Assist with planning, designing, implementing, deployment, and administration of virtualized environment - VMWare ESX v3.5 and v4 in support of applications hosted by the customer data center as required. Support all activities with expert implementation of approved security standards, including compliance with timelines, a vigilant system security program of analysis and remedies, and corrective actions that preclude reoccurrence of intrusions. Generates end-of-shift reports for documentation and knowledge transfer to data center staff


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.


10-15 years of related systems engineering experience.
