This position is accountable for assisting in the execution of strategies, policies, procedures and objectives for the operation of the purchasing program for materials and services. The Senior buyer will buy all the market commodities for the Salt Lake City Facility: Fabricated components, raw materials, electrical and electronics and NPP. Measures and monitors purchasing improvement programs. Determines and negotiates with proper sources of supply for most economical purchases consistent with quality and customer service standards. Arranges for and evaluates competitive quotations, dependability and resourcefulness of suppliers in meeting requirements. Supports project/development by selecting and negotiating with the best approved suppliers (vendors) of particular commodities and assuring proper order quantity and delivery times of commodities from suppliers. Visits supplier facilities and investigates cost reduction opportunities and supplier's ability to meet quantity, delivery, quality, and technical requirements. Employs cost reduction techniques with emphasis on negotiation and value analysis. Conducts legal and ethical business relationships with suppliers Negotiates prompt corrective action to address non-conforming materials. Negotiates recovery of costs incurred. Assits in the development of long-term material acquisition plans, including: supplier development, contracting strategies, inventory management, cost management, quality improvement, procurement systems, measurements, and market access programs. Represents purchasing to customers (internal and external), marketing and field sales through presentation and training.
Required Skill Sets:
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing in manufacturing environments.
• Candidates must have strong negotiation skills and strong PC skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
• Lean, 6 Sigma familiarity would be an asset
• Candidates must be strong team players (ability to interact well with other functions: i.e. engineering, operations, new product development)
• Ideal candidates will have knowledge with MRP.
• Travel may be required as needed (5 - 10% travel depending on business need).
