| Typical duties for coops within the Hardware Development Department include IC testing and evaluation, minor characterization and verification (both manual and automated) of ICDs, Pacers, and Engineering Test Tools. This could involve both data collection and analysis. Some students might be required to design schematics and be responsible for PCB layout, rapid prototyping and concept/experimental design and execution of hardware and software, including writing engineering test procedures and reports, and coding software for GUI-based apps and automation tools. Other duties include ATE support and fault isolation, soldering, part procurement and assembly, and production support as needed. Skills and traits we typically look for, but are not limited to, include: 1) At least a junior level student in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering having an emphasis in Electrical will suffice 2) Experience with circuit design, filters, amplifiers, power supplies, and computer engineering 3) Experience with RF and antenna design is preferable 4) Software knowledge, preferably C or C++. LabWindows/CVI is the software tool we use for most applications, as well as Visual Basic 5) Needs to know the basics of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 6) Knowledge of schematic entry and pcb layout tools (PADs is what we use here) 7) Very good communication and teamwork skills for working will all levels of employment and outside vendors 8) Soldering and desoldering techniques and the ability to assemble/wire-wrap prototype boards or PCBs 9) Ambitious and willing to learn new things; Not afraid of new challenges 10) Ability to multi-task and switch to higher priority tasks with little notice |
