| Vice President of Marketing The Vice President of Marketing has senior executive management responsibility directly and through lower management levels to establish and develop the Cardiovascular Division’s strategic and product-focused “upstream” marketing activities for Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology. Responsible for processes across organizational lines including working closely with Sales Divisions and “downstream” marketing organizations to successfully develop, execute and track marketing initiatives. Essential Functions: 1. Directs and supervises subordinate managers/staff in fulfilling their administrative and professional responsibilities. Responsible for directing the hiring and retention of a diverse, highly qualified staff and for ensuring the development of department managers/staff, establishing succession plans, and for providing career growth. 2. Ensures the establishment of a clear strategic product direction and a focus on breakthrough opportunities as well as the creation of new business models. Oversees the annual strategic planning processes from inception through publication and presentation. Develops and secures approval of longer-term strategic marketing objectives, policies, and programs. 3. At the executive management level, directs product definition and product maps and the development of product and market initiatives. Directs product portfolio planning and analysis of competitive products and strategy. Directs the gathering and summarizing of Voice of the Customer (VOC) inputs from health care providers and sales organizations. Directs the gathering and analysis and sales data and trends. 4. Develops and manages physician advisory boards. 5. Recommends to appropriate functions product modifications or improvements, derived from market research sales force input, and physician feedback. 6. At the executive management level, is responsible for development of product training programs and ensures that appropriate training and education programs are provided to the selling divisions to support their new product training. 7. Manages/facilitates communications with the sales divisions and global marketing organizations regarding sales forecasting/tracking and any product issues. 8. Ensures that quality of services meets internal and external customer requirements. Sets goals, ensures that they are met and is responsible for continuous process improvement. Uses best business practices to ensure success in areas of responsibility. 9. Contributes to Corporate branding activities and the establishment of branding standards. 10. Remains current on developments in field(s) of expertise with a comprehensive knowledge of the company’s products, markets, and objectives as well as industry trends. Maintains expert knowledge of current and novel marketing practices through literature, trade journals, professional associations, and by attending conferences/seminars. Accountability/Supervision: Acting independently and restricted by only the broadest policies and objectives, has senior executive management responsibility directly and through lower management levels to establish and develop the division’s “upstream” strategic and product-focused marketing activities, including the gathering and summarizing of Voice of the Customer (VOC) inputs. Works to obtain results that have a clear, positive and direct impact on business performance; readily commits to whatever time and effort it may take to achieve goals. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational issues affecting Marketing; these decisions directly influence the success of the division. Has authority to plan and direct work and is accountable for successful accomplishment of work assigned to the department. Develops organizational strategy to carry out CVD’s financial goals. Responsible for multiple cost centers. Ensures the attainment of profit and operational goals for assigned functions as outlined by the Division President. Relationships: Internal: Reports to the President of CVD. Interfaces primarily with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Finance, Operations, Legal and worldwide Sales at all levels. Directs “upstream” strategic and product-focused functional areas of Marketing and provides general direction to and review of senior Marketing managers. Represents the CVD Marketing Department to field personnel and other St. Jude Medical divisions on all matters pertaining to the Division’s Marketing functions. Serves as the principal spokesperson for the Division on marketing matters of high significance. Provides an overall environment that inspires and facilitates employee development, growth, and performance. Sets overall strategic direction for all of Marketing. External: Interacts with physicians, hospital personnel, consultants, other companies, regulatory agencies, etc. Equipment: Utilizes a personal computer and a variety of standard office equipment including telephone, copier, printers, fax, etc. Works with a wide range of equipment/systems such as PC’s with Windows based operating systems. Working Conditions: Works generally at a desk in a well-lighted, air-conditioned cubicle/office, with moderate noise levels. Physical Demands: Activities require a significant amount of sitting at office and work desks and in front of a computer monitor, and some walking and standing relative to interaction with other personnel. Significant use of hands and arms, plus finger dexterity to reach, point, write, type, operate a computer and other office equipment. Activities also require significant use of voice and hearing for discussions with personnel. Qualifications: Required: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. Typically a minimum of at least twenty years of progressive marketing responsibilities in the medical device industry. A minimum of ten years of demonstrated experience at a supervisory/managerial level is required. Seasoned judgment acquired through organizational experience and achievements applying relevant marketing principles; the ability to develop and implement strategic marketing plans. Comprehensive ability to effectively prioritize development projects using customer input. Ability to work cooperatively/productively with others. Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations. Requires highly developed leadership skills/people-management experience sufficient to assume the complex range of personnel interactions inherent in this position. Must be adept at delegation, follow-up, and team building. Comprehensive verbal and written analytical/problem solving, communication, negotiation, interpersonal, training and presentation skills are essential. Documented record of delivering strategic marketing information which adds value to management's decision making process; ability to drive the product definition and customer requirements process and interface with R&D and Operations for implementation. Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks. Unwavering ethical behavior and compliance to state and federal law regarding interactions with Health Care Providers is required. Advanced personal computer skills (i.e., MS Office Suite) including demonstrated spreadsheet, word processing, and database management capabilities. Frequent domestic and international travel is required. Desired: A comprehensive working knowledge of Cardiac Surgery and/or Interventional Cardiology is strongly desired. An advanced credential in a relevant business and/or technical discipline/concentration is desired. |
